Ok, then we'll have to dig further:
Try the following:
Scan for Malware
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Microsoft Security Essentials (A good permanent anti-virus if you don't already have one)
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Then...
Reset Firefox
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

If you try running https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ does that take care of the issue?
It was not helpful. In about:config there are two line items that will not allow any changes to be made to them. They are:
"keyword.URL " that has a string value of "http://t1.search.com/search?q="
and "browser.search.default engine name" that has a string value of "search.com"

Yes this was helpful--a full scan with my anti-virus "Avast" came up with no malware found. Same thing with the TDSSkiller utility. I proceeded to reset firefox, and that seems to have corrected the problem. Thanks for the info.

Can you post the exact URL that you get when doing the search?
Did you search the about:config page for that domain?
If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:
Thanks--- I already reset firefox and it solved the issue for me.
