Delete the places.sqlite in the profile folder, if importing bookmarks fails.
I tried your suggestions....didn't work. I now have Places Maintenance but I still can not restore nor access my bookmarks. The backups are in my HD (JSON file) but I do not know how to open/copy them. Please help as I have accumulated these bookmarks over a period of years and really do not want to lose them.
Can you import in a new profile.
Did you delete the places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder?
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
No, the places.sqlite folder is in the Firefox folder. I also have the bookmarksbackups but these are in JSON file format...how do I copen or copy these?
If the current places.sqlite is corrupted then you need to delete this file. Otherwise you may still have problems with the bookmarks.
Firefox should restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder or you can restore a JSON backup yourself in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
I have been doing that (Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks>Import & Backup>Restore) for the past few days and everytime I try it, Firefox freezes. The backups are in my HD but in JSON file format and I can not open or copy it and as I mentioned previously, Firefox just freezes. Help please.
Does a new profile help.
