Cookies were stored from ARCsoft.com when "viewing" a Yahoo email; I was not aware that cookies would be stored without actually accessing a site link; Currently using FireFox Beta, Vista XP Pro
Cookies are enabled, customized to delete on exit. I frequently remove cookies manually, and create a new tab when accessing another site.
It might be helpful for FireFox to delete cookies specific to that tab upon tab closure.

hello, you can also disable third-party cookies in the privacy settings - this should take care of cookies by arcsoft.com while you're on yahoo.com (which likely comes through an embedded image from this third-party server in one of your emails). for expiring cookies you can use an addon like this: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/self-destructing-cookies
if you're interested in third-party content that can be used to track you, you also might be interested in the collusion project by mozilla: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/collusion/
or use an addon like RequestPolicy to disable such content by default.

Based upon your reply, I checked the appropriate settings and made changes. My desired settings may have been altered over time when newer software versions were installed.
Originally I had selected "no 3rd-party cookies" in Firefox and "no images" in Yahoo.com but both of these were not set. I first changed the "3rd-party" setting and reopened the Arcsoft.com email. Cookie storage was then inhibited.
Images were displayed in the email and I made those changes within Yahoo. I access Yahoo from two different sites (Mail.Yahoo, com & ATT.Yahoo.com); the setting via the ATT site remained as specified, i.e. "no images".
Thanks for the speedy reply. I did not know "displayed images" within an email could affect cookies within a browser. I was fully aware that invoking an email link did present this opportunity.
My question will be marked as resolved. Thanks again.
