Moving Files from the inbox to a subfolder
Thunderbird will not let me move a file from Sent Items (for instance) to a subfolder.
Why is this? How can it be fixed?

Email fine for 10 years until today, no email since 8am yesterday. No changes to computer, I have rebooted twice. Called my provider and they suggest a few changes in tho box that pops up when I click get messages. After location, I have mail.knology.net:143, the had me try imap.mail.knology.net, imap.mail.woway.com, and then adding :110 to all of these. Nothing helped, then they said to try to get help from Mozilla.
Your help please.
btw, I also have two gmail address in Mozilla and the work fine.
Thanks, mike

Hello, I have been using Thunderbird for a long time and have a lot of saved messages because I use it to document projects and conversations, etc. About 6 years ago, Thunderbird deleted all my emails and I never recovered them. Sometime last year, I realized that in the older emails, the body of the emails and their subject lines were all mixed up, that is, the email was intact but the subject line was from a different email. I tried to re-index (?) the files and this helped, but didn't completely resolve the issue. Now, my problem is that, when I am reviewing my inbox and delete an unwanted message, the inbox goes blank. I have to close Thunderbird and reopen it, and then the inbox reappears. I get hundreds of emails per day and I need to be able to delete them as I go. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Thunderbird email stopped receiving new emails about mid-afternoon two days ago. Now the only way to received new email is to turn off security. Outgoing emails are unaffected.
When attempting to receive emails following security re-initiation, the following message is displayed: "The certificate for Wowway.com is not valid for that server. . . ."
Wowway (WOW!) cannot help.
Please keep response as non-technical as possible, as I am a novice.

I recently hat some issues with one of my accounts. At first some random mails disappeared right after receiving them, which made me question my sanity. Last week, I was able to witness a mail being recieved, appearing in search results, disappearing in the client and disappearing the mail from the server about a minute later.
While I was still wondering about this and looking for solutions (I tried the "Repair Folder" last week), I found no apparent changes, until yesterday, when about 9 months worth of emails turned into thin air. (Not in the inbox, not in the trash, not in the archive or on the server). Fortunately our IT department has backups and could also confirm my suspicion that the deletion was issued from Thunderbird.
I think there is a severe bug somewhere, but at the current moment I don't have the smallest clues to write a useful bugreport. Where would you start collecting evidence for this?
(Running Thunderbird, version=128.6.0, on Windows10, when this happened)
Thanks, Daniel

I've been using Thunderbird happily for some years. In the last week however, I can no longer send mail from some accounts. I have 3 accounts: one is Hotmail, two are with Ionos. All accounts receive fine, and one of the Ionos accounts sends fine, but the other Ionos account and the Hotmail one have stopped sending.
When receiving a 'link' in an email and clicking on it, rather than following the link all that happens is a 'zoom in' situation. All accounts.

My original post earlier today unfortunately does not allow editing after posting. So, I had to start a new thread. Unable to recover my Court initiated PDF documents that they sent to my Comcast email, synced with TB on this Mac Monterey system, I made a last ditch effort to recover them through my Comcast account online, going through their website. So, despite any administrative mischief that the Court predisposed me to suspect, sort of virtual "lawfare," I was able to recover those documents directly through my online account. However, this makes it less worthwhile to have a default email account - and considering that I also have Windows 10, which no longer supports its Mail app, careful research substantiated that TB was the best replacement. So, there is some kind of problem with TB if it either cannot retain these attachments, or it is subject to some third party who wants to corrupt them after they transmit them. Where is the problem, TB or the sender?

Hello,
Since the last Thunderbird update (128.6.1esr) installed on 28 January 2025, I have a problem with messages status synchronization. When I mark a message as read, it becomes unread again, and vice-versa. I have the same problem in troubleshooting mode.
I tried several solutions but none of them worked: - compress and repair the inbox folder - move the messages to a local subfolder, delete the 'Inbox.msf' and 'Inbox' files, reopen Thunderbird and move the messages to the new empty Inbox folder - delete and recreate my whole account
Is this a common problem caused by the latest update?
Kind regards

I hope there is a simple solution to this. This is a Mac Monterey system. Right now I am using Firefox. About three years ago I gave my State's Court system access to my Comcast email address, which syncs with Thunderbird. About two days ago I found, before I saved previously one of the attached documents, that the PDF Court initiated attachments no longer opened. I have not dismissed some kind of administrative mischief at their end on the part of some IT professional they employ. Instead of opening the document, they instead open a tab showing the message thread to which they attached the original PDF. Since these are Court documents, and their is personal injury involved, of course they are important to me. So, I am interested in recovering these documents. Does my Thunderbird, which I constantly check for updates as I do Firefox and this whole Mac Monterey system, need some kind of repair? Unfortunately, since I have a Windows 10 with Thunderbird (Microsoft no longer supporting its original Mail program), these messages do not appear in that installment of Thunderbird. These messages go back to 2022; and on the Windows 10, the oldest messages only go back to 2023. Again, I hope somebody knows a simple fix. I had A+ training from DeVry; but XP was the going OS then. Thanks in advance for anyone who has possible solutions. Have a good day, otherwise, hopefully better than mine.

Payment: Thunderbird is the only real competition to Outlook. I would be willing to pay to keep this competitor alive. I applaud Owl's efforts, but I'm not sure I want an industry built around Thunderbird's flaws. If I'm going to pay, I'd like to pay for Thunderbird.
