After updating to 128.4.4esr I can no longer send email - NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED. I can create a new message, hit Ctl-S to save and I get a dialog box of "Status: Creating mail message..." and a progress indicator that is at 100%. I also get an error of "Unable to save your messages as a draft. Sending of the message failed".

If I attempt to send and email I get the same creating mail message and an error dialog box saying "Sending of the message failed".

In the error console I see

  • Bulleted list itemSending failed; , exitCode=2152857621, originalMsgURI=imap-message://andrew@defaria.com/INBOX#67121
  • NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED: Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFile.createUnique]

I looked at my ~/.thunderbird directory and the permissions are 700. I'm on Ubuntu 24.04.

I have encountered the following issue about a year now .I have been using Thundebird some years now and I have created my contact list . Even though I have added in the address book all the contacts I needed and named them as I wanted. When I receive a mail the correspodent appears differently from what I have named the contact.Propably as the person sent me the email have named himself.The same applies in sent mails as well.No matter what I did ,it seems like the database from the address book is not linked to the mail database whatever I do. Please advise

Hi Thunderbird-Team, I am using Thunderbird 128.5.0esr (64-Bit) on Linux (openSUSE Leap 15.5). When I want to attach a file to a written e-mail the file-selection dialog does no longer offer a line-edit-control where I can copy-paste an absolute path to the attachment file. I always have to click through the full directory path in order to specify the file that should be attached. Is there any chance to input a file path via keyboard or just by mouse-paste? I use Thunderbird. Whenever I create a new folder in the email account I have set up in Quaker Meetings Network (QMN), url https://quaker.app, it is appears as a sub-folder of Inbox, but I want it to be a folder at the top level of the email account. I can do this with the other email accounts I administer with Thunderbird, in gmail.com and phonecoop.coop. Why can't I do this with a QMN email account? QMN say this is an issue with Thunderbird -- they are able to create "top level" folders on other email software such as Outlook

Depuis quelques jours, lorsque je demande de relever les messages (car je n'ai pas paramétré thunderbird pour qu'il le fasse automatiquement à l'ouverture) s'affiche en bas de page un message du genre "téléchargement de 6 messages" par exemple puis "chargement du message x sur 6" par exemple (avec x = 1 puis 2 ...). Or, la plupart du temps, il y a bien moins de messages qui sont à télécharger. Il me semble cependant que le nombre de messages qui sont téléchargés est correct (je dis cela en ayant examiné ma boite aux lettres chez le fournisseur d'accès à Internet). Cette situation m'inquiète à chaque fois : ce qui est annoncé n'est pas ce qui se réalise ! Y aurait-il un réglage à effectuer dans les paramètres ? Merci pour l'attention portée à ma demande

I've been using Thunderbird to handle my email accounts for a long time (years). My Gmail connection was misbehaving, so I deleted the account on Thunderbird, verified that everything was still there by using the google.com/gmail interface (which works fine), then tried to recreate (reconnect) the Gmail account in Thunderbird. Followed the routine "Set Up Another Account", "Email", entered a name, gmail address, and password, then "Continue". Thunderbird looks up a configuration, finds Gmail, and it all looks normal. Checking in "Configure manually", OAuth2 is there. Click "Done", and it begins "Checking password", and never comes back.........

I know the Gmail account and password are valid, because I can get mail directly from Google.....

I'm at a loss...any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been using Thunderbird 091 and 102 version to send out digital signed Emails with the help of a pki usb token. Lately, I have downloaded the newer version 128 and to perform the same task by using the same token with the same certificates in, however it failed to do so by showing up an error message when I tried to send out the digital signed Emails. The error message indicates that the signing certificate can't be found or expired, but nothing has been changed except for the newer version of the thunderbird.

Please let me know how can I fix the issue.

unable to shift from 'show unread' to inbox. I quit TB to see if it was a temporary prob, but no change. Sidebar shows 168 in inbox. But at bottom of sidebar under unread folders shows 8. If not showing unread, but all messages, the larger number is prob accurate. Clicking on inbox does nothing.

I've just returned to TB after a few month break on Apple mail. I've always preffered TB, but things seemed to disappear, so I switched. But eventually Apple mail had at least as many probs, and I prefer TB. Hope you can help. thx.

HELP! This new version installed today, and Thunderbird suddenly stopped running and no longer runs. I get the message: "A newer version of Thunderbird may have made changes to your profile which are no longer compatible with this older version. Use this profile only with that newer version, or create a new profile for this installation of Thunderbird. Creating a new profile requires setting up your accounts, calendars and add-ons again."

The message seems erroneous because it is running the newest version. Should I step back a version? If so, how do I do that?

How can I make the conversations to be displayed in the reversed order, i.e. if I have ten messages in the conversation, make the last one appear at the top line? Mac Thunderbird: Sending emails takes over 1 min since two weeks ago.

I've been using Thunderbird on my Mac for 15 years now. Never had any issues with it. Love it. My wife has been using it on her Mac for the last decade. Again, no issues.

Two weeks ago, Thunderbird was working perfectly on both our laptops. However, overnight, we both started having issues sending emails. Any email to anyone now takes over one minute to send. It is painfully slow.

Receiving emails? No problem. No problems with anything else. Only sending.

Specifically, it's sending it from our Bell email accounts (we live in Canada and use Bell for our Internet needs).

I have a second account using a different domain, and that one has no issues sending. Also, when I send an email using Bell's internet browser portal, it sends instantly. So there's clearly a communication issue between Thunderbird and Bell at this point.

When this problem happened, Bell sent us a text telling us that our 1 GB Internet speed will now increase to 3 GB. That's when our email sending problems happened.

I just spoke with Bell, and they assured me that nothing changed on their end. It's too much of a coincidence to think that they have nothing to do with this. However, after speaking with the tech, I'm wondering if for some reason Thunderbird has difficulties connecting to the 3 GB servers on Bell's end. The reason I'm suggesting this is that my laptop still shows 1 GB per second download speed. However, the modem shows 3 GB. The tech suggested that our laptops can't take in more than 1.5 GB. So it's bottlenecked on our computers' end.

It's possible that Thunderbird also has a bottleneck issue because they can't negotiate the 3 GB Bell servers.

In the past two weeks, I have downloaded the three different updates Thunderbird had to offer. However, we have left my wife's Thunderbird active version it when this problem started. As a comparison. No change on either system. We are both running M2 and M3 MacBook pros, so there's no chance of it being a hardware issue on this end. And again, this problem happened literally overnight.

Help?
