Why does Firefox remember closed tabs
Whenever Firefox loads, tabs I've closed re-appear. Gmail searches also re-appear, deleted bookmarks re-appear and extension icons re-appear in the wrong places after being moved. Session Manager takes care of most of these issues.
I'm most annoyed by the closed tabs re-appearing.
My system is a dual-core running Windows 7 Prof'l. I've tried resetting Firefox, but can't seem to get the hang of it.
Can anyone shed some light on this ???

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Rename (or delete) the #sjs and sessionstore.bak# files and delete possible numbered sessionstore-##.js files in the Firefox profile folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
Note that your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there. You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
thanx, cor-el :)
i removed a prefs-1, sessionstore and user (*.js) files (prefs.js needed to stay put) from my default profile with firefox not running. just for the heck of it, i also removed the newly created sessionstore.js file while firefox was running; it was re-created on shutdown and re-started successfully. no new user.js has been re-created.
also, the extensions (about sessionstore and session box) i disabled have now stayed disabled -- still using session manager, but may not need it anymore. :)
if only i could figure out why gmail keeps remembering a search from a month ago <chagrin>
