For years I've been selecting "Bookmarks" with no problem. Now I select "Bookmark This Page" and nothing happens.

Doesn't the bookmarks star (Bookmark this page) get highlighted blue to indicate that you have bookmarked the current tab?

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
