Hi I accidentally deleted all thunderbird folder from user/username/appdata/roaming/, I was able to recover all "Mail" folder which is located in /profile/xxxxxxx.default/ but when I copy it again to the original location thunder bird is not showing any messages, the recovered folder is at the same name and size with the last version I had.

re : able to recover all "Mail" folder which is located in /profile/xxxxxxx.default/

Did you copy the 'Mail' folder from a backup of your profile name xxxxxxx.default folder? Do you need to recover the profile? If yes, then you needed to copy paste all of the contents (all files and folders) of the backup xxxxxxx.default folder into the new xxxxxxx.default folder, overwriting all files - not just the 'Mail' folder. Before doing this you must close Thunderbird.

Thanks Toad-Hall, the problem is that the recovery software did not recover the whole folder, I mean "Thunderbird" folder or the profile "xxxxxxx.default" folder, it recovered only the "Mail" folder. When I try to convert the recovered files to outlook for example, it also show empty folders even having big size files (The sent file was 198 MB, I converted it to .pst buy it recovered 0 emails).

re: the backup 'Mail' folder

make hidden files and folders visible:

Open the 'Mail' folder. It should contain:

  • 'Local Folders' folder
  • a list of your pop mail account names
  • maybe a 'smart mailboxes' folder - but only if you've ever used 'Unified Folders' view.

Post an image showing contents of the backup 'Mail' folder.

Open the pop mail account name folder. Make sure the column header 'Size' is visible. Post an image showing contents of the backup pop mail account name folder.
