hello in about:preferences#search are the list of search engines, one of them "NewTab.club" keeps reinstalling itself even after deleting it from the list after restarting firefox.

i have tried looking in the registry, no luck. i have tried searching for its icon (a white outline of a tab symbol on a blue background), no luck

where is it hiding? which addon does it belong to? how do i get rid of it?

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
