Can't delete an accidentally entered preference from the advanced preferences section where values can be toggled etc

I just updated Thunderbird to the latest version 52.0. Reading the changes, I wanted to see if I could amend the preferences from that section, specifically how images are now included using Data URIs.
I did manage this and put it back to the default, but the first attempt at modifying resulted in a new value called "true" being created in the list. While I'm aware it is likely harmless, I would really prefer to remove it but cannot see how. Are you able to help?

Entries in the config editor, which I assume you are referring to, once set to default simply disappear on the next restart.
Thunderbird only stores non-default preferences in the prefs.js file. Some appear in the list, but unless they are in bold Thunderbird does not store the values. (bold being non default values)

What list?
If you mean in the Config Editor, try right-clicking the setting you created and select "reset", then close the dialogue, saving your changes then close Thunderbird and restart. "Reset" generally removes whatever setting was chosen by the user and reverts the setting to its default value. Doing this also removes it from the display.
