Make Firefox show top sites when opening a new window?
AFAIK, only when a new tab is opened (ctrl + T), the top sites are shown.
Is it possible to set up Firefox to show top sites when opening a new window (ctrl + N)? If so how?
Thanks.

You can replace the built-in home page with the new tab page on the Options page.
- Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
- Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
- Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
- Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it
In the "Home page" section, where there is a blank to enter the page address, type or paste this internal address:
about:newtab
Then tab out of the field to have Firefox save the edit.
I'm not aware of a more convenient way to do it.

You can have the New Tab page open in a new window, when you hold the Shift key and click the + symbol, that would open a new tab when you press the Ctrl key.
Would that work for you ?
OK, I see this is a solution though not the most convenient one as it requires using keyboard and a mouse operation at the same time. I was hoping that perhaps a setting in about:config could make new windows automatically show top pages.
Thanks.

I don't use a mouse, but my touchpad ......
But maybe somebody else will come up with the perfect solution for you (fingers crossed .... )
By default the New Tab page and the Homepage are the same in Firefox 57+, until the user changes any of the New Tab Preferences settings found via the "gear" on the New Tab page. Once a change is made the Homepage changes to about:home which doesn't have Top Sites.
So if you want that to be "convenient", change your New Tab Preference settings to include all 5 items; Search, Top Sites, Recommended by Pocket, Highlights, and Snippets to get back to the default setup for that New Tab page - then your Homepage which is what a New Window will display revert to being the New Tab Page again.
