most recent vist not updating
In the Firefox bookmarks library, there is a column to contain the date of "Most Recent Visit". This has very few entries and I suspect it is not updating or keeping the date in history.
Any suggestion for a way to remedy this?

Most recent visit depend on the history, so it sounds that you do not keep history if this column doesn't update.
Did you test his with a bookmark (i.e. open a bookmark in a Tab and check the "Most Recent Visit")?
This should reflect this visit immediately.
Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" - remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

- clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
- clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep
Have verified that I do not have "always use private browsing mode" selected. Items selected are: "remember browsing and download history" and "remember search and form history". "clear history when Firefox closes" is not selected.
Any other suggestions?
After further review, Firefox does not seem to keep history more than 7 days. So date of first and most recent visit is lost if older than 7 days. install app MZHistoryView from NirSoft to see that this is true.
Useless to have a data field for first visit and most recent visit if history goes away after 7 days.
