Restore previous session and sessionstore files aren't working

1) I have my old previous.jsonlz4, recovery.jsonlz4 (and its .baklz4 counterpart), and upgrade.jsonlz4-date files backed up and copied into a separate folder

2) The problem is that after renaming one of my copies sessionstore.jsonlz4, closing Firefox, and deleting the present sessionstore.jsonlz4 file; when I try to put that candidate file into the profile folder (the main profile folder, not the sessionstore-backups folder)... Firefox ignores the file I placed upon being reopened.

I have also tried deleting the present sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore-backups folder entirely and substituting my files, but this merely results in a greyed-out 'Restore Previous Session' button

I think the best way for what you want is to create a new bookmark folder and place all the links you want to open in it. After, just open the Bookmarks Manager, right-click on that folder, and select Open All In Tabs

As in the links or the tabs themselves? Because it's the tabs from my old session that I'm after---around 300 of them.

Each tab is a link to something from the web or your system.

You can look at this tool to inspect a compressed sessionstore file.

Thanks, but I already used that tool to identify which backups I wanted to use.

I'm still not really sure I understand. I think (hope) you mean to extract the tabs, as in not just the URL, from my backup files and put them into a bookmarks folder, right? If so, how do I go about doing so? I can already look into the files themselves from the above tool, so in what format do I need to write the bookmark files and in what format do I need to save them as?

If the tool doesn't report issues with the sessionstore file then placing this file in the main profile folder with Firefox closed to replace the existing sessionstore.jsonlz4 should work. You may have to check "History -> Recently Closed Tabs/Windows".

Otherwise you can use the tool to extract the URLs and open them in tabs or possibly bookmark them (don't know if the tool can create an HTML file that you can import in the Library).
