hello, does anyone know how to create a setting to automatically save history for just one site, when you have your settings to delete all other history upon closing firefox?

This one site i use constantly (my email program), and don't want to have to go through the cumbersome process of logging in yet again and again, and i trust it so i don't feel the need for that one's history to be deleted.

thanks!

You are being logged out by deleting the site's cookies. Let's try to sort that out.

If you turned on "Clear history when Firefox closes" in the History section of the Preferences page, there is a Settings button to the right of that line where you can tell Firefox not to delete Cookies and Site Settings/Site Preferences.

Then in the Cookies and Site Data section of the Preferences page, you can turn on "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" but create a site exception using the button to the right of it (Manage Exceptions or Manage Permissions).

The reason you need to do it that way is "Clear history when Firefox closes" does not honor exceptions.

hello again jscher! well, i am sad to say that although i carefully followed all the details you gave me, i did not solve my problem after all. i think it is my fault for not explaining my aim well enough...

(to confirm, i have "Clear history when Firefox closes" in the HISTORY section of the Preferences page turned on, and for the Settings there i have told Firefox not to delete Cookies and Site Settings/Site Preferences.

and in the COOKIES AND SITE DATA section of the Preferences page, i have turned on "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed", and created a site exception in the Manage Permissions for my email page.)

what i am actually trying to achieve, is that i can click the history icon in the toolbar and choose "clear recent history", and from there clear all, but have it not include my email page. however, unfortunately after following your instructions here, my email page still gets cleared along with everything else. i guess it has something to do with me wanting to achieve my aim without HAVING to close firefox. (but still have it work when i DO close / restart firefox.)

please help me resolve this? thank you so much!

Hmm, I don't think there is any built-in feature for that. There are some cookie-related add-ons to preserve or reinstate important cookies. You could search and check the descriptions/reviews; I haven't tried any of them myself.
