If I’m on webpage x and leave to retrieve a pic or file, when I come back to webpage x it disappears and my homepage appears. This is annoying bcz I have to click on the webpages icon and reload webpage x. Where are my settings wrong?

Hi there! Have you tried checking your active tabs? Sometimes, when you leave Firefox (for iOS) open for an extended period of time, it'll open a new tab so you can convinienty type in what you want to search, as you are less likely to continue.
