Firefox crashes every time when I enable a flash plugin. It started today after an automatic attempt of updating shockwave. I've uninstalled flash and installed it again. Still the same story. There are no previous version of flash available on adobe site. What should be done?

I have Firefox 3.6.8 and newest version of Flash. I've followed all recommendations made by Firefox support, changing plug in container settings, changing hang time, nothing helps. I'm forced to disable Adobe Flash or Firefox crashes whenever the Flash plug-in is needed. There are numerous reports of this problem throughout the Firefox troubleshoot help pages. No one seems to have a good answer to fix this. I now keep Flash disabled and use it only when going to a web page that needs it. If I find myself on such a page, I can go into tools, enable flash and do a reload. For some reason, this works. The reload will let Flash do its thing and Firefox won't have an APPCRASH. Once I leave that page, however, I must disable Flash again or I'll experience a crash the next time Flash is called upon. I really like FF but have downloaded Chrome and am now playing with it to see if I like it enough to use it as my primary browser. It's a shame that FF can't come up with a fix as hundreds have the same complaint.

Try disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player display settings (Right-click on any Flash video, click "Settings", select the Display tab and uncheck “Enable hardware acceleration"). Ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Performance_or_display_issues_with_certain_Flash_videos

Are there any solutions to this? It basically makes Firefox incompatible with Mac OS 10.6, no?

Mozilla Firefox crashes after updating to latest Flash Player. Straight after it opens.

I have FF 3.6.13 and it was still crashing with Flash Player 10.1.

I read a lot of pages on this and one finally gave me a solution. The current Flash Player has a bug. To test that, go to Tools>Add-ons>Plugins and turn off Shockwave Flash. Then try to go to CNN, the New York Times, or Yahoo Mail. If it fixes the problem, then this buggy Flash Player is at fault.

It was suggested that you download the beta version 10.2 here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

Just pick the one that says: Download plug-in for 32-bit Mac OS X32-bit (DMG, 5.5 MB)

This fixed it for me.

@Parsa9,

Thank you for that suggestion upgrading to beta version 10.2 has sorted the problem for me.

Edit... I spoke too soon and Adobe Flash plugin is still crashing.

IF you are running AVG (Free); try this:

-Open the AVG window (double click on the icon in the system tray). - Double Click on "Link Scanner" in the main window. -Under the "Settings" portion, deselect the "Enable Search-Shield" and the "Enable Surf Shield" options.

I hope this works for you! Post back if it does!

Open up computer case, unplug and take out the processor fan cooler and wipe out all the dust, speccially in the heatsink, with a soft little brush and compressed air spray (also check power supply fan). I discovered this solution after weeks of trying all software related recommended steps and nothing worked, adobe flash player was still crashing in firefox, chrome and opera even after completely uninstalling flash and installing latest version 10.2.152.26 of the plugin. I realized this was the problem when pc started to crash unexepectedly when not playing flash videos. So, EUREKA, that did the trick for me. Hope it does for you.

I had this problem with Flash 10.2.152.26 on Vista Home Premium SP2, not only with Firefox 3.6.13 but also with Google Chrome 9.0.597.98 and IE7, so clearly a Flash problem rather than a Firefox problem. I downloaded FP10.1_archive.zip from the Adobe site, removed Flash 10.2.152.26 and installed 10.1.82.76. So far, everything seems to be back to normal.

in my opinion this is an ATI graphics card/driver problem...i`m running windows 7 ultimate with SP1 and a fairly new ATI card with crossfire enabled..to enable crossfire i have been using ATI tray tools rather than the ATI catalyst control center.....both firefox 3.6.13 and google chrome beta 10.0.648.82 are installed on my system and both browsers have been crashing with adobe flash on youtube and any other site running flash video. i`ve disabled crossfire and uninstalled ATI traytools and hey presto..no problems..flash is working like a dream...on both browsers...ATI hardware and drivers are simply TOOOOOOO unstable and buggy...every time i have problems with them... never again...nvidia next time...

I had this exact same problem, after updating to the latest Firefox 6.0.2, where it told me that I needed to update Adobe flash plug-in.

I clicked on the link given by Firefox, updateded flash, and the next time I tried a UTUBE video I got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.....

watchdog.sys of XP was hung in an indefinite loop, could not even power down, I had to literally pull the A/C cord from the wall socket.

I re-installed my ATI driver, after finding similar problems on a google search, and VOILA ! everything works fine now.

I hope that this helps someone.
