After downloading Firefox 4, my Google Toolbar disappeared. The new F4 page has no View, Tools etc at the top. WHY would I risk this again by accepting the invitation to download 5??

Changes to the toolbars:
- I don't like the changes that were made to the user interface either, rather than saving toolbars space they would require a lot more space with 1/10 the functionality. But the important thing is that this is Firefox and you you can customize things yourself. Your complaints about the Firefox toolbars are the first 10 items in the following and they are all quickly fixed ...
You can make Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.19, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.
hostage to third party toobar:
- Why would you tie your entire browser use to a third party toolbar, that was never really ever needed, let alone be held hostage to not update Firefox. Google had over a year to update their toolbar for Firefox 4 and the changes for Firefox 5 could have been tested for several months. Google waited a very long time before finally indicating that they would no longer maintain their toolbar for Firefox stating that it was not needed, and that the features were in Firefox. Also be aware that the features are also in their own browser which also does not need or use the Google toolbar. Not only is Mozilla open source, but all information is made available to anyone -- you can even listen in on meetings online yourself or wait for a printed reviewa.
- There are no changes to the user interface going from Firefox 4 to 5, and probably not even through Firefox 7.
Life without the Google Toolbar:
- You might want to check out this article, based on Google's own assessment that features were already in Firefox, and expanded from there.
Kicking a dead horse:
- The Google Toolbar is no longer supported by Google in Firefox 5 and up', you may be able to get what you want from it for a limited time, the directions to install the Google Toolbar were posted before Google actually announced dropping support.
- Enable Google Toolbar in Firefox 5
