I have removed and reloaded the latest version - 16 - hoping it would work but it's the same. I'm using Chrome which works...but I prefer Fire fox.

Trusteer Rapport has been associated with some problems, if you use that software ensure it is updated.

Do any of these help

  1. using safe mode
    see Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
  2. running in safe mode AND disabling any plugins
  3. using a clean profile
    see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile


Thinking about what is not likely to be the problem
Often security related software may block Firefox after an upgrade, that may then work on again on downgrading (Downgrading though is not recommended as it is a security risk). The fact that Firefox opens first before hanging probably rules out problems with

  • security software
  • sessionstore

A normal reinstall of Firefox rarely solves problems.
