Edit->Preferences->mailto is set to "Use thunderbird (default) If I set Edit->Preferences->mailto to "Use Yahoo! Mail, that works.

In KDE I set the "Use a different email client: to /usr/bin/thunderbird. If I enter /usr/bin/thunderbird in a console, thunderbird starts.
