Regarding your real player problem, here's what I did after trying everything. I uninstalled real player including the library (it doesn't matter whether you just upgraded to the new version). Make sure you make a copy of the folder "real player download" to another folder so you can copy it back later. It is in the folder "videos". In mine it is in my user name on my desktop.
Also uninstall real downloader if you have it installed separately (as I have). Check firefox addons and extension and make sure that you do not have anything there about real player or real player downloader. Otherwise you might have to reset firefox.
Download the latest version of real player and just install it. When you get prompted to add real downloader to firefox, just say yes. Then go to you tube and download the files that you couldn't download before. I did that and it worked.

Please update Flash to the latest version.
- Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700
You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page.
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
- disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
- disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
If the RealPlayer downloader is not working currently then you need to wait for an update and use an extension in the mean while.

- Youtube Video and Audio Downloader: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/youtube-video-and-audio-dow/
Tried the suggestions, firefox is even worse for crashing now. Also when trying to open web pages, pages are opening up in the background. Using a different PC to contact you as firefox is so unstable now on my laptop.
Any other suggestions I can try ?
Thanks for your assistance
Best regards Neil
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:
- bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.
- You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".
See:
I looked where you said and there is nothing with any sort of prefix. I also tried looking at the links you added to your message but it did not help me to understand. Crash reports have been submitted today so I am at a loss to understand your request.
Can you please clarify in easier to understand language please.
Best regards Neil
After clicking a link on the about:crashes page, you should get a URL to your crash data. You could post that URL (or those URLs) in your reply instead of the shorter codes.
There was nothing other than a long list of letters and numbers. No URL was visible. Best regards Neil
Hi neilbowls, those long strings of letters and numbers should be links to reports on Mozilla's crash stats server. No?
I have no idea, I think that the crash is due to the shockwave rather than firefox as I never get firefox crash report window.
Real player still will not work, further all sorts of other windows open when trying to go to a website, and now me email address is being remembered even though it is set not to.
Things seem to be getting worse the more I look at and try to resolve, is this common or am I just unlucky?
I am now having to use IE on my pc due to the problems but when at work on another pc firefox is good and no windows opening up either.
Is there anything in the settings I can try to alter ?
I did look on the real player site and there is a problem listed there regarding downloading video with firefox they say they are trying to resolve it.
Best regards Neil
Hi neilbowls, when Flash crashes, if there is a video visible, usually you see a message in the box about the crash. Those also should be recorded on the about:crashes page. Don't any of those strings of letters and numbers work as links?
After a reset, many of your settings revert to the defaults.
(1) To stop Firefox from remembering data you enter into forms, go to:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
Make sure you have "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history"
Then you can uncheck the box for "Remember search and form history"
(2) If you haven't changed it since the reset, go ahead and disable Firefox's hardware acceleration setting again.
On "all sorts of other windows open when trying to go to a website," do they look like advertisements? Could you provide more information about this?
In some cases, Firefox may find extensions on your system even if you didn't install them from the add-ons site. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized add-ons on these two tabs:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
You usually need to exit and restart Firefox for this to take full effect.
I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing problems, and hope this helps with at least some of them.
Thanks again for your reply. Regarding crashes. When trying to load web page with video the whole page freezes before i can get to see the video. I have tried resetting firefox, but will look again and follow your suggestions when i am with the laptop tomorrow. Regarding the opening windows. Some do look like adverts. They suggest downloading HD players, download security check software, others are just blank pages. Thanks again for your continued assistance in these matters, I will let you know how your suggestions fare asap. Best regards Neil
I know you said you did everything in cor-el's list, but if loading a page with Flash freezes the entire tab, please confirm that you disabled the Flash player plugin's protected mode. See:
- Adobe's support article, under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
- My thread Flash hangs Firefox (eventually get script continue/stop dialog)
Tried altering the privacy settings etc you suggested but still firefox saves my email address. Regarding plug ins nothing there unknown all needed Extensions only has real player. so windows still opening offering HD player downloads loans etc. Tried disabling flash but still seems to have problems loading pages. I am continuing to use IE in the short term without problems.
Is there anything else I can try please. ?
Best regards Neil
Hi Neil, where is your email address remembered? If it is not being automatically suggested by Firefox (e.g., in a drop-down below the form field), it could have been saved by the website in a cookie.
I don't have any new suggestions regarding Flash and other issues.
Check to see if your plugins are all up-to-date.
Hi ComputerWhiz I have checked and all plugins are up to date. Is there anything else I can check / Best regards Neil
Hi jscher2000
When i go to log in to my hotmail account it comes up in a box below the field when i start to type it
I did run pc cleaner and it has not appeared this time. Regars Neil
Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:
- click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
- highlight an entry in the drop-down list
- press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.
will this stop it being saved or will i have to do it every time I sign out ?
If save form data is enabled then Firefox will automatically save form data from all fields that do not have a autocomplete=off attribute to prevent this. So it is up to you how to proceed.
- Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": "Remember search and form history"

It is set not to remember, but it still remembered my email address when i go to log in. After clearing with ccleaner it did not do it the next time, but did remember it the second time. Real player still will not download, do you know of a fix that will allow it other than the previous suggestions ? Best regards Neil
