Just today I have started seeing ads popping up from "Articles by Bettersurf". How can I get rid of these? I have Norton Antivirus on my computer... but this is constantly nagging me as I surf the web. I think Foxfire should check into it. I believe they have found a way to get past the pop-up blocker. Thanks, Carolyn

So sorry, I keep a clean rubbish bin.

Under ProgramFiles (86)/bettersurf are three folders: /ff, /ch and another one (not /en). Under the /ff sub-folder were firefox installation files.

Both times bettersurf appeared, I disabled the Firefox add in, and deleted the bettersurf file tree. Restarted the computer for good measure, and no problems after that.

Check your add-ons list to see if it's listed there and remove it.

I too got this crap from the recommended update.

I did not have to click anything, it was there when firefox restarted.

The removal help does not work as there is no 'remove' button. It does not show up in the extensions folder.

Norton scans files, not web pages. It is very sad  :-< but many of the software down-loaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the teeny tiny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the program permission to instal the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the manual option instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to use the manual option to put a stop to this.

Sorry, my english is so bad. J'ai réussi à m'en débarrasser en allant dans "Outils" ( you go in "Tools"), puis "modules complémentaires" (i don't know the name in English ,perhaps "Compementary tools") vous voyer le module "BetterSurf "que vous désactivez (you can see"BetterSurf" and do it enable). Possibilité aussi de supprimer le fichier dans (you can delay the files in ) Windows/Program Files (x86).

What's the name of the file or files that are in that folder?
Anything with the @ symbol in the file name?

If so, what's the name of that file?

Bettersurf came back. This time Microsoft Security Essentials got it. However, I did look at the files: C:\Program Files (x86)\BetterSurf\BetterSurfPlus:

    \ch
         \BetterSurfPlus.crx
    \ff
         \chrome
              \content
                   \icons
                        \default
                             \star1_32.png
                        \Thumbs.db
                        \utils
                             \amiextension.js
                             \amihelper.js
                             \amilocal.js
                             \chaddon.js
                             \chback.js
                             \ffaddon.js
                             \hostutils.js
                             \ieaddon.js
              \better-surf.js
              \firefox.js
              \overlay.js
         \chrome.manifest
         \install.rdf
    \ie {empty folder}

That's all!
