Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
   • Windows:
     • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
     • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
   • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
   • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
   1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
   2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

• Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
• In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
• In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
• Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Sorry, no luck. I tried FF safe mode and it still happens. Which suggests that it has nothing to do with hardware acceleration or extensions.

I did a reset FF and nothing there either.

Checking my Nvidia drivers, I found that I'm 6 updates behind. So I'm going to try that, but I'm not holding my breath. I have a 7900 so most updates actually don't affect me. My drivers are from May 2012. (turned off the updates when the next one after that didn't get along with my card.)

Does it have any effect if you move the mouse as quickly as possible from the folder to the drop down list with its content?

In the past there used to be a problem with one or two pixel separating the two columns that caused the menu to close when trying to move the mouse to the other column.

I'm sorry, I guess a little more detail is in order. I select bookmarks and that list drops down. As I move the mouse down the list each folder opens up as I go past it. If I move the mouse straight left or right to the listings in the folder, then I can select something in the folder. If I move up or down into the next or previous folder, they will open up.

I thought it used to be if I clicked on a folder it would stay open regardless of me moving my mouse up or down to other folders.

No. If you move out of a folder and go to another folder then that folder opens and the other closes.
If you want multiple folders to stay open then you can use the Bookmarks sidebar.

• Toggle the Bookmarks sidebar on/off via "View > Sidebar > Bookmarks" or Ctrl+B (Command+B on Mac)
• Toggle the History sidebar on/off via "View > Sidebar > History" or Ctrl+H (Command+H on Mac)

I'm not looking for more than 1 folder at a time, just the one I click on to stay open and the others not open up.
