Why does one of our identities have only 3 folders (inbox, sent, trash) and the other a whole lot more?

We have two identities/email addresses. Mine has like 9 folders (inbox, sent, trash, all mail, spam, important, starred), and the other just 3 (inbox, sent, trash). We had a guy put this email client (Thunderbird) in the computer; we didn't do it. So, why the discrepancy? Are any of these extras important (sorry), or is the other missing out?

well yours is a gmail IMAP account. (All mail is a give away) the other account is probably a pop account for your ISP . Hence only a couple of local folders.

see here for some basic details on IMAP and POP. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/glossary-terms-including-types-accounts#w_mail-accounts

Oh, man, I thought they were both IMAP! They are both gmail, but I do see that one is indeed POP and the other IMAP. That answers other questions, too. I wonder why the guy did that? Oh, well, at least now I know, although there is nothing I can do about it. At least the POP is my husband's. I am the only one who has to deal with all the extra stuff that IMAP leaves on the server. Thanks
