Hi:) I'm new to Android cell phones. I have a Tracfone Samsung Galaxy Centura w/ Android v4.0.4. I am ONLY going to use it as a cell, and for wifi, no tracfone data. The first night I was able to use the default browser, but then I started having trouble, freezing, etc, and Google Play said the browser was no longer supported & I needed to dl Google Chrome, etc. For privacy reasons I do Not subscribe to Any google services. Is it possible to download & install Firefox for Androids on my phone without utilizing Google Play, etc. I have been trying/searching for DAYS without any success. Can't I dl Firefox somewhere, even if I needed to dl it to a SD card on a different computer and install it that way, it would be worth the time/trouble... (to me ;-) I have the same question as far as other free apps also, can't I use cnet, etc without getting re-routed to signing up for Google Play??? Thank you SO much. I've used Firefox for YEARS due to their sensitivity about peoples privacy concerns, I Love it, and I am Very grateful that we have it:)

Hi

I appreciate your privacy concerns, but best advice is always to download apps from a recognized app store such as Google Play as that is the best way to get automatic updates.

If you want to download a standalone version without that protection and benefit, you may want to read this and consider this.

I would strongly recommend downloading either Firefox or Firefox Beta from Google Play to ensure you have the most recent features, fixes and security enhancements.

Thank you so much for your reply and links:) I was hoping that there was a reputable solution, such as a way to dl directly from Mozilla, as you can do for FireFox for Windows.

Hi

The only way I think you can do that is to download the Nightly build of Android, but this is still very much under development and may have several bugs and issues that are still being worked on.

Thank you again Seburo  :)

https://aurora.mozilla.org is a self-updating build that is quite a bit more stable than Nightly.

Good Info kbrosnan.... Thank you! ^..^

The reason why he suggests Aurora is because the Release and Beta channel builds installed manually this way do not get updates like you do on desktop Firefox.
