Almost each time I open TB it downloads my "all mail". Why? It sometimes freezes TB up till complete! Help
Overnight, I usually quit my TB. When I open it in the AM it almost always downloads 'all mail'. Often this freezes my email for some minutes till the download is almost complete.

Do you even need to see your all mail folder? I would suggest unsubscribing from it and not showing unsubscribed folders.
I would also suggest you create a Bugzilla account and CC yourself to this bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=816327 Note my comment on the Bug right at the bottom. I can not be bothered repeating it, but it might help

what Thunderbird version?
Matt, it is version 38.2.0
Should mention that I am on a desktop MAC and the email is synched with my iPhone and my iPad. This could make a difference since they must coordinate what has been deleted or filed on another device, HOWEVER, this download happens whether I have done anything with email on any other device or not. dlbonajourney

Yes, consider the problem resolved. I reduced the retention of All Mail and may unsubscribe. I already get a copy of sent mail. dlb
