Middle-clicking a link is not working consistently?

Normally, when I middle click a link it opens in a new tab and loads the page immediately. But sometimes, now, it opens the new tab and puts the URL in the address bar but doesn't 'hit enter'. It just sits on the new tab page (which is blank for me) and I must click the address bar and hit enter myself. This was not always the case and doesn't happen consistently. I have tried restarting my browser multiple times and this has become a problem in the MIDDLE of browsing and sometimes it goes away after a little while too, even in intervals of fewer than 5 seconds. Is there a way to fix this, or is this a bug with this version of Firefox? It's really annoying...

Can you remember if that are normal links or are that JavaScript links or links that have an hash appended (#xxx)? Sometimes links have to be processed via JavaScript on a web page and only open in the current tab and do not work properly when you open them in a new tab.

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

In reply to Cor-el, these are completely normal links on sites like Youtube.com and Google's normal search results. Again, it's sometimes, not all the time, even within the same web page. Sometimes, it'll even work properly if I middle click the same link a second time without refreshing the page. I don't think this has to do with the website I'm on or Safe Mode since it's so inconsistent.
