There are currently no plans for a Thunderbird Android version. Syncing of calendar data on the phone works well with Google Calendar.

Well, that's what I'd like to get away from. Feel much more secure using a Mozilla server than a Google one.  ;-)

Mozilla does neither provide email nor calendar servers. So I'm not sure what you're looking for.

Just looking for a way to sync my Tbird mail and calendar/tasks to my phone and not have to use Google calendar/tasks at all.

You won't be buying Android again then? ;-)

You made the point about "not have to use Google Calendar" so the purchase of a device that uses an OS and ancillary services owned and maintained by Google seems at odds with your wish to avoid their products.

Me, I use Google Contacts and Google Calendar on Thunderbird and my Android tablet and phone. I don't buy or use Apple, and I use Linux when possible.

Point made. And I agree completely. It's a bit of a quandary.

I would never own an iOS device so Android is my only option (a Windows phone... forget about it!) So, knowing full well that I'm extremely limited in my security options with Google I try to keep as much personal info as I can off their servers. Not sure how successful I am in that respect, but I back up using 3rd parties or locally when possible. I've used their calendar and actually like it. Still, I continue my search for other options.

And Linux... well that's a no-brainer if security is an issue. It's hard to break that Windows habit, but I just put Mint on one of my boxes and am working to become strictly a Linux guy. If Windows is needed for gaming or whatever, I'll have it sitting in Mint on my Virtual Box!
