Will Firefox be updated soon so that one can attach files to e-mails with the new version of Outlook Mail?
Outlook Mail has a new look as of this weekend. However it seems that Firefox has not been updated to account for changes in Outlook Mail. Specifically, I can no longer attach files to e-mails. I contacted Outlook support and they said the problem is not with Outlook (because I could attach files to e-mails when using the Chrome browser). Apparently is has something to do with the fact that a message comes up saying my network is not secure (but that seems unusual since I am using a secure home network wi-fi connection and I do not have that problem when using Chrome).

When does that message come up -- right after you click the paper clip or at some other step in the process? Or do you mean the lock icon has turned gray and has a yellow triangle on it?
If you get a message in the tab, could you copy/paste the detail of it? Thanks.
btw the Firefox 47.0.1 you are using is not the current Release as Firefox 48.0 has been out since Aug 2nd as you can either do a update in Firefox or download from www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/48.0/releasenotes/
I updated to Firefox 48. The security issue is resolved as the lock icon is no longer gray and the yellow warning triangle has disappeared. However, the initial problem persist in that I am unable to attach files to e-mails. This was not an issue under the previous version of Outlook Mail.
I have also noted that I cannot logout of Outlook .... previously you could click on your photo and the Logout command appeared. Now nothing comes up when you click on your picture. I wander if the problem could be that I am using Ad-Block +?
What happens when you click the paper clip icon? A panel should appear, which in my case defaults to OneDrive. Then there is a button to open a file from my computer that launches a file browser window. Can you get that far?
When I click on the paperclip icon, nothing happens ... no panel, no access to OneDrive or any files.
Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.
If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.
If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
- Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

YES! When I start Firefox in Safe Mode, I am able to access the file menu by clicking on the paperclip icon and I can then attach a file/photo to the e-mail.
Is there an easy way to determine which of the add-ons or extensions is interfering with the ability to attach files when NOT using Safe Mode (other than deleting them all and adding them back on one at a time)? Can the program be debugged so add-ons/extensions will not interfere?
And thank you very much for your helping this Luddite!!
PS ... I can now also access the panel that allows me to sign out of Outlook Mail, something that I could not previously do in the regular mode.

Not easy, but not quite that hard, either.
You can review your list of extensions and think about which ones modify page content, such as ad blockers and other annoyance reducers. These add-ons might have toolbar buttons that let you make site-by-site exceptions or turn them off temporarily. That would be the first thing to check. You might need to reload (Ctrl+r) your email site after changing that, or maybe not, it depends on how the add-on works.
If that doesn't help, you can use the "half at a time" method:
Open up the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. You might want to take a screenshot or cameraphone photo for later reference for what is currently enabled.
Then disable the top half of the enabled extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement? If that helped, you can re-enable half of those extensions you disabled and test again. If it didn't help, you can re-enable that first group, and disable half of the other group that was enabled during the fail.
And so on...
I tried the "half at a time" method and determined that the problem is solved when "Adblock Plus" is disabled.
Perhaps Microsoft has disabled the logout panel and prevented the attachment of files to e-mails by users of "Adblock Plus"+ so as to make one buy their "Ad-free Outlook" !!!
Unless there is a workaround, I guess I will have to switch to using my Gmail account!!
I thought Adblock Plus had an easy way to make an exception for the current site from its toolbar button. No?
