session restore restores blank tabs and back arrow grayed out
This is making my Firefox unusable. Firefox 56.0.2 (64 bit) in Windows 10
Question 1 For a few weeks Firefox has been acting strangely. When I restart it after re booting I either get 1. this is embarrassing with no tabs restored and history-restore previous session grayed out or 2. My tabs restored but they are all blank (no content, no url)
The actual "history" is present and I can reconstruct the lost tabs, but this is not how it should work.
It almost looks like something is clearing the cache, but I am not doing that.
Related Question 2 The other problem - which may be related - is that the arrow to go to a previous webpage is often grayed out and will not send me back to the previous webpage. I am locked into the page I am viewing.
Related question 3 I just noticed I cannot get to Firefox's options. When I click on options, nothing happens.
What is going on? Any ideas? I'm ready to give up on Firefox.

I have marked this to escalate, but....have been waiting for some one to come along that knows a lot more than I on profiles. Can give you the standard stuff but can not find anything on merging profiles. You can move those files I am sure. You can have Firefox open up and ask what profile you want to use. Collect bookmarks then open the other and then do it all over so can finally delete one.
All I can find are archived solutions/questions. Nothing will work for 54+ This needs to be done I would think before Nov 14th and the release of 57.
This is interesting but no date on it. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Multiple_profiles

Corruption would be the answer I think. Please uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved.
Reinstall Current Release Firefox 56.0.2 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ (should change to 57 on the 14th) Note that version 57 release date is Nov 14th. Could wait 2 days to do a complete reinstall. It also might be in your profile that problem exists. Help now or wait for 57 ?
Thank you fr the rapid reply. I went to add/Remove programs and noticed something really strange. I have both Firefox 56.0.2 and Firefox 56.0 installed. Don't know how that happened. I will uninstall 56.0 first and see if that fixes things. If not I will follow through your instructions. I hope it is not my profile. (I have 2) I would hate to lose everything.
Did everything you said and reinstalled Firefox from the fresh download. It started up fine and even restored the tabs that were open before I uninstalled. I actually have 2 profiles. They are on a partition separate from the system partition C: How do I re-associate them?
