Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window. Profile is missing.

Reveice the error message when opening Thunderbird : Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window. Than a message that my profile is missing: Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.

killing the process is not helping.

Is there a way to fix this and retrieve my emails.

I'd start by opening up the profile folder (with Thunderbird closed) and removing any lock files.

But the warning about the profile being missing is a bit worrying.
