Some of my Bookmark icons are wrong and are different then the tab icon. Some just turned black with a slight outline.

Firefox does not refresh them when visiting the page again.

Firefox of late seems to harbor a gremlin that causes that to happen more often that before. Last I checked the Bug report about that fault, was that it should be fixed come Firefox 59.

Still not fixed.

Hi , please try uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 59.0 with a Full Version Installer

Some came back. Others still do not update. Even though icon comes on in tab. Tried deleting and bookmarking again but no luck. Whatever bug was introduced in 58 as the-edmeister said above is still there.

Hopefully a fix will be implemented at some point.

Try to rename/remove favicons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Note that this will remove/reset all the favicons and you need to click a bookmark to visit the link to make Firefox retrieve the favicon.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Tried this before i uninstalled and didnt work . I then uninstalled and completely removed all folders for firefox also deleting appdata locations. No luck.

Whatever was done in the update the icons will either be wrong or just not update.

You didn't use this profile with older Firefox versions (i.e. downgrade Firefox)?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

See also:

If deleting favicons.sqlite didn't help then rename/remove all places.sqlite files as well and let Firefox rebuild the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder. If there aren't backups available then you need to restore the bookmarks yourself manually in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

None of these suggestions are working. If it is a bug as the-edmeister said. Ill just have to wait for a patch. Never had this issue prior to 58.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Are you not reading my replies? Of course I had a new profile. I completely uninstalled firefox, deleted all directories before re-installing. I dont keep any old profiles. I do not use sync. So a new default profile was made.

So is this just not a thing for other people?

Still suffering this issue on FF. Chrome updates icons just fine with no issues.
