I tried to import my bookmarks from an HTML doc, but nothing happened. I tried to import them from Chrome, and it hung and never downloaded them. I was on v. 58, so I upgraded to v. 59, but that didn't fix it. I tried safe mode, and that didn't fix it.

I literally cannot use Firefox without my bookmarks because of my work. Can anyone help?C

I know how to delete things. It didn't work that way, neither did trying to delete each one individually with a right-click delete work. I'm not interested in trying anymore. I have Chrome and Edge and I'll get Opera as a backup. I loved Firefox when it was simple and had a lot of great add-ons, but you've ruined it for me now. No reply needed. This issue is solved.

Still lots of add-ons https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/

Hi AmieW, do you have a huge number of bookmarks? The process certainly can be slow for large files. If Firefox displays a dialog indicating that a script is slow and asking if you want to Stop or Continue, please click Continue. If you never saw that dialog, perhaps there is a different issue.

Two possible workarounds for the file not importing:

(A) Import to Internet Explorer first, then have Firefox import from IE

In IE 11 (or maybe there's a way to do this in Edge?):

  • Tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar, then File > Import and Export...
  • Choose Import from a file, Next
  • Choose Favorites, Next
  • Use the Browse button to point IE to your Chrome export file, Next
  • Select the destination and Import

In Firefox:

Import Bookmarks and other data from Microsoft Edge

(B) Open your Chrome HTML export file in a Firefox tab and use the links to launch pages until this is sorted out

I finally figured out that all the imported bookmarks were going to the Other Bookmarks folder, and managed to get them copied onto the bookmarks bar, but now I can't delete the extra folders from Other Folders.

This is ridiculous! Importing and exporting bookmarks used to be so easy and fast. Now it's ridiculously complicated and slow. I think I'm going to stay with Chrome. The more you try to fix Firefox, the more you break it. I'm so sick of having to struggle with this browser.

How are you trying to delete the folders from Other Bookmarks? It's easiest to use the Library window, which comes up when you use either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+b
  • "Show All Bookmarks"

In the left column, click Other Bookmarks.

On the right side, single-click one folder and Ctrl+click the others. Once they are all selected, press the Delete key. They should all be gone.
