I have two programs installed on my PC, both named "Mozilla Maintenace Service", one vers 52.9.0 the other vers 63.0a1 and I don't know why.

This would appear to be a redundancy but since I'm not even totally clear about what exactly Mozilla Maintenance Service does (is a program specific maintenance program where a different program would accompany say Firefox as well as Thunderbird? If so this makes a little bit more sense). Any clarity on the subject would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe the 52.9.0 version is a 32-bit version because you have 64-bit Firefox 61.0.1.

The Mozilla Maintenance Service is used to download and install updates in the background without having permission issues (UAC pop-up) You once allow this service then you install MMS and then it can do its job in the background.

Actually the version isn't 61.0.1, its 63.0a1. Any idea what I'm to make of that if anything?

Hi and ya why are you running a Alpha version ? It may have installed it's own Maintenance Service I tend to leave those builds alone as they Crash and Burn. Suppose to report those to bugzilla when do flame out.

Your 2 versions may have become intertwined now unless installed on separate partions using custom install.

You may want to do this with your ver 52.9.0 which is a update behind :

Full Version Installer

Developer Edition is another matter as it is always in Beta. It also has a Compatibility Mode that comes up after installing it so can run 2 versions.

Yes my understanding is that Thunderbird can make a Maintenance Service.

To be sure maybe someone else knows.

Can always check with them : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird Then decide what your going to do.

Do do the backups though asap.
