Please tell the forum whether folders are missing from a POP or IMAP mail account ?

Have you got this selected: 'Menu icon' > 'Folders' > 'All'

If IMAP: check you need to subscribe to see them:

  • right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'
  • select/highlight the Sent and Drafts folders

When Thunderbird updates, it only updates the program which is in an entirely different location.

Please check what your current pop mail account is pointing at. I'm wondering if Thunderbird could not locate your original pop mail account and created another.

  • Right click on pop mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Select 'Server Settings'
  • Bottom right, locate 'Local directory'
  • left click in the text area and then use the right arrow key to go all the way to the end.

The last part will say the name of the pop mail account. eg:

In the example above you can see that one of the names has a number 1 applied. Make a note of what you have got.

Now look in the profile folder ?

Make hidden files and folders visible:

In thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • click on 'Open folder' button
  • click on 'Mail' folder

Do you see more than one pop mail account? For example has one got a number at the end of the name? If yes, then check both accounts to see whether one of them has a 'Sent' file of some size.

  • click on pop mail account name folder
  • Enable the 'Size' column header.

If there is only the one pop mail account: Do you see more than one 'Sent' mbox file (no extension) in that pop mail account name folder? eg: 'Sent' and also 'Sent-1' Do you see a 'Sent.bak' file ? Also 'Drafts' - are there two ? If yes, one should have a larger size than the other.

If there are two pop mail accounts - one with a number: Does one of those pop mail accounts have a 'Sent' file with good file size?

Post images showing what you find in 'Mail' folder and also images showing contents of each pop mail account.
