How do I turn off this automatic feature?

It shows the next message automatically when.... what? If you mean it happens after you delete a message, Deselect on Delete works in TB 60, but you may have to open Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor and double-click the preference extensions.strictCompatibility to false, OK to close Options.
