Why would Ublock origin want permission to access my IP address ? As a blocker it should block incoming trackers whether my IP is my public or VPN.

Please take a look at this this Reddit thread

Did you click on "Learn more about permissions" on the dropdown ?

I still do not understand the permission action at this time. the document seems to suggest it may be required.

I have performed a refresh Firefox and reinstalled Ublock origin and I did not get the request for IP permission. This is version 1.25

I tried removing and adding ublock origin on another workstation and it ran the March-2020 1.25 version without requesting permission.

After reinstalling firefox 74 I still see no request for permissions.

Is this malware?

more options

Firefox no longer asks for this specific permission because it is confusing and this is only about getting access to the IP of the websites you visit and not about your own IP as people might think. UBO has no need to access your IP and doesn't do that. This is about getting access to the IP of the visited website to make it possible to see if you visit a domain in the same IP range, but with a different hostname.
