Inbox - odd behaviour
I have switched to gmail because Sky e-mail does not work well with Windows - even using the web page. So far, Thunderbird has worked fine with it. But I have an intermittent problem. The toolbar icon and the account tabs will show that there is a new message in the Inbox. But it is not displayed in the main window (I sort messages by date received, and I don't use threads). If I switch to the "Important" or "All Mail" windows, it can be seen there (and accessed readily). So, why doesn't it appear in the Inbox window?

Gmail works funnily. The All Mail "folder" is where all messages are stored, and then they are labelled using Inbox, Important, Starred, etc. The Inbox is not really a folder, but rather is a label applied to messages that show up in the Inbox view. You're not seeing the message in the Inbox because its Inbox label was removed, making it inaccessible in the Inbox view. This happens when you archive a message. There is no shortage for articles explaining all you need to know about Gmail's labels. See https://www.google.com/search?q=gmail+labels+vs+folders

Thanks for that information. I need to look at which emails are causing the issue - if there is a particular sender or senders that cause the issue. It's a nuisance rather than a problem, and I'd be reluctant to give up Thunderbird - so I'll live with it for now. Thanks again for your help.
