Not sure when it changed but I remember being able to add a new email address when creating a new email by opening the address book and dragging. There may have also been the ability to right click on the address in the new email or from an email in the Sent folder and 'add to contacts or list'. Not sure of the wording.

Has something changed? I can seem to accomplish this without copying the email address then opening the address book and adding it manually to my contacts. Even when the contacts side bars is opened in the new mail window with F9 you can only select from existing, not add to the contacts from the TO: address.

Thanks

Have you clicked in the message header where is shows the address in the sent items? That has a menu.

Thunderbird also adds all new address used to the collected address book when you send the email, without any input from you. I just don't see a use case for dragging the address from the compose window where you have typed it to an address book, and it does not appear to be a supported drag and drop target.
