stop thunderbird message recovery while processing

somewhere along the line I have screwed up Thunderbird on my Desktop computer. I am stuck with a spinning wheel and no recovery in any of my 5 accounts for the past year. I can receive all message on my Kindle Fire 10 so I am not out of business I need to know what steps I can use to halt the messages coming in on my Desktop Computer and not lose any of my messages. My action that seemed to cause my problem was try to do a mass marking of some 60,00 unread messages as read in my wife's primary account. Any ideas will be welcome. Thanks, Bo Edwards

Is this the sequence of events?

1. Desktop on Windows 10. Or windows 11? 2. A year ago, mass mark 60k unread messages as read, in one folder in one account. But in which folder? 3. Since then, for a year, unable to read all 5 accounts on that desktop.
