How do I delete the list of previously visited sites from the address box in the taskbar? Nothing seems to work.

I have been able to delete my History (and do so automatically). However, when I click on the down arrow in the address box in the task bar, a list of previously visited sites appears presenting a privacy problem, and I am unable to delete the list. How can I delete that list?

Entries in the location bar drop down list with a yellow (blue on Mac) star at the right end are bookmarks.
You can remove such a bookmarked item that shows in the list if you open that url in a tab and click the yellow star in the location bar.
This will open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and you can click the Remove button to remove the bookmark if you want to remove such a bookmarked entry.

Thank you for your response. I'm afraid I was not too clear in asking my question. The address box is not in the location bar; it is in the TASK bar. There are no stars of any kind involved; I do not believe these are bookmarks. Also, my OS is Windows7, not XP.

Thank you for your response

The address box that I was referring to is located on the TASK bar at the bottom of the screen, NOT the location bar. There are no stars in the listing; I don't think they are bookmarks. In addition to the "usual" procedures for deleting, I also went into "about:config"|preferences|browser|taskbar|lists|frequent|enabled|; I doubled-clicked on it and change its value to "false". That did not help either. BTW, my OS is Windows 7, not XP.
