7.01 rightclick "new tab" restricted
After upgrade to 7.01, the right click "Open in new tab" is no more shown for the pure text of a complete webaddress, e.g. google.com/folder.
It is still working for the domain name without folders , e.g. google.com. And of course for hyperlinks with <a href>
So I reverted to 6.02

This is an intentional improvement. As I understand it it is to make it easier to understand that it is the correct intended site and not someone using part of the site name.
It is possible to change the behaviour iirc, and also note you may copy and paste from the location bar and the full information is pasted.
very glad for your very quick reply. I already guessed it was changed by intention. Certainly, I still can copy - paste-and-go, but on pages where I have to do it 20 times this is too much effort.
How can I manually change back this behavior?
Re-reading your question I am not sure I answered what you asked, because I am not sure if uyou are concerned with the display in the location bar or on the tabs themselves; using the following as examples.
comment.......... | link ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, | URL |
---|---|---|
1. support | lnk here | https://support.mozilla.com |
2. mozilla dot org | another lnk | http://mozilla.org |
3. mozilla folder | community link | http://mozilla.org/community/ |
4. moz sub folder | lower lnk | http://www.mozilla.org/community/directory.html |
I have set up 4 links with matching URLs I will see how they display and behave in the different firefox versions. At least we now have something to use to discuss the issue, the urls and links above should work as real examples.
Certainly the http/https can be returned to its previous behaviour, and I guess so can the rest of the display in the location bar, as explained
Users can revert to the old behavior by setting browser.urlbar.trimURLs to false in about:config.

I have not tried it myself yet ! but will do sometime next day.
Many thanks for coming back to my question! Unfortunately, within this forum, the phenomenon in question cannot be exemplified, since every text of a web address is automatically transformed into a functional hyperlink. However, what I mean is not links, but plain TEXT of a web address, lacking any hyperlink functionality and lacking http://www. Examples her:
http://ttt-online.de/ff-7.01.htm
If you select the plain text "google.com" by mouse action, then rightclick, FF6 and 7 offer the context command "Open in new tab".
If you select the plain text "google.com/folder", only FF6 offers "Open in new tab". FF7 does not, that's what I am missing.
