navigation toolbar does not update - why?

abruptly my firefox navigation toolbar stopped updating. i can go to bookmarks ok, but once there the toolbar lists the old address. likewise if i click on something that takes me to a new place, again the toolbar does not update. how do i get the navigation toolbar to correctly list the current URL?

Hi,

Ideally History and Bookmarks or History should be selected under Location Bar in Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Privacy, while Firefox will (above) is either Remember history or Use custom settings for history with Remember my browsing history selected. Options > Privacy
