I get only a blank screen in Firefox when I click on a PDF web link. I have tried most solutions here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-view-pdf-web.html Some of the suggested solutions I cannot try. For example, in Adobe Reader Preferences the "view in browser" check mark is greyed out, I cannot deselect it. If I disable the plug-in I can download the PDF when I click a link. Safari has no problems displaying PDFs. Mac OSX Lion, Firefox 12.0

This is a Mac specific issue with Adobe Reader. Adobe is working on a fix.

Instead of using the plugin to display PDF files within Firefox, open PDF files in Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat

I find that Firefox 12 DOES download the PDF file, the file's URL is showing in the locator field in the tool bar. Click into that field to make it active and press Command-Save; the Mac file browse system will allow you to navigate to the folder where you desire the file to be saved.

It works the same as it did before, with the exception Firefox does not ask where to save the file. JaCie

jaCie, that wasn't the issue. The problem was clicking a pdf link didn't DISPLAY the file as it used to. Instead there was only a blank screen.

Anyway, as you can see from the above answer, it is an Adobe issue. And now I see that going to the Add-0ns in Firefox, then Extensions, there is a note that this version of the Adobe reader has stability and/or security issues and is eisabled.

A clue to the problem:

My wife uses a MacBook Pro identical to mine, both running OS X 10.8 and Firefox 15. When I use her computer, to download a .pdf file, a dialogue window opens that allows the file to be: Saved As... or Open file. I consider that normal.

When I do exact the same on my computer, but only when downloading a .pdf, there is no dialogue window:

When downloading any other file, I get this same dialogue window (that I am looking for), but when I click on the link of a .pdf to download the .pdf file, there is no dialogue window.

Instead, the browser window is blank, the entire link of the .pdf source is in the Location Field, and the only option is to use Command-S to save the file.

I've been comparing various preferences in both computers, but so far I fail to see where the differences lie.

Thank you... Can you assist?
