What can I do about suddenly getting certain foreign language pages etc.?
A few days ago I suddenly started getting Yahoo's Netherlands' home page, whenever I went to check my e-mail. I had to click on the US tab to the back of the Netherlands' one, to even try to get on the US page. Then when I tried to sign in, the page made me answer a bunch of security questions, because it said I was trying to sign on from an "unrecognized device", even though I was using my computer like I always do. That happened again & again, then last night I could go right to the US page, by typing the URL or using a bookmark, but I still got ads down the sides etc. of the e-mail page, in a foreign language.
Well now today I suddenly noticed on my AOL e-mail page, I'm getting foreign language ads too!! And just a few minutes ago I got the Yahoo Netherlands' home page again!!
I e-mailed Yahoo about the problem a few days ago, but got no response, not even an automated one.
All other sites seem to be OK. I tried a link given to me by someone in a Delphi Forums group, for help if Google loads in a foreign language, but it doesn't for me, & I don't get any foreign ads when I'm in gmail.
Whatever the problem is, it's getting worse. And I really need to know how to fix it, before it starts affecting other pages/sites, & I'm not able to get on any I can understand. Please help!!

This could be one of several issues. Follow these steps and see if you can fix the problem:
1. Clear your cookies. Hit Ctrl+Shift+Delete to open the Clear Recent History window, select Everything under time period and then choose Cookies, Cache, Active Logins, and Offline Website Data. Wait for that to clear out, then reboot your computer and try again.
2. If that fails, reinstall Firefox. To do this, go to Control Panel and uninstall Firefox (be sure to not check the "Remove all profile data" checkbox). Then reinstall using this link to the installer. Reboot and try again.
If your still having a problem, then please reply. Thanks!
I replied through my Yahoo mail too, but I wasn't sure if I was supposed to reply here also, or what. So here goes again.
Thanks for your repsonse, but #1 didn't work, so then I tried #2. Since I'd removed Firefox, I had to use IE to go into Yahoo & click on the link in #2 to try to reload Firefox. The link wouldn't work. The first time it gave me a "404 not found" error, & said that intranet is a lot less secure than internet. I still tried to proceed, hoping that would make the link work, but it didn't, I still got the "404 not found" error. Now what? Rita
You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
- Firefox 12.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
This is the correct link:
Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Also make sure that your security software (firewall) isn't causing problems.
Hello, I loaded Firefox again, but that still didn't change anything. I went into my profile the same day, through a link on the trouble-shooting page, but there was nothing there except my user name!! I tried it again with the link you provided, but that screen said to close out Firefox entirely, & just use Windows. Well, that didn't work as the screen described it would, & so I couldn't do that either.
Yesterday I contacted a fellow I know who owns a programming, repair, etc. business, in another part of my state. He sent me a link for a mega spyware program. It found a Trojan etc., but cleaning those off my computer didn't help. He also told me the same as you all did, to load a "clean" copy of Firefox. I did that again just this morning, but nothing has changed. Since as I said, I can't seem to do anything with any sort of profile, I don't know what in the world to try now!! The guy told me yesterday also, that if loading Firefox again didn't help, that I might have what I think he called a "host error/problem", & he said those are quite difficult to fix.
So, thanks for all your efforts. Unless anybody else here has some ideas, I guess I'm stuck with the problem, & with a computer I don't "trust", even with the new mega spyware etc. program I loaded yesterday! Rita
You can check the connection settings.
- Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection > Settings
