Reload icon flashes on some web sites
Recently, the reload icon stopped working on some websites. When the cursor arrow is placed over the reload icon, it flashes. I've read the fixes, and non of them work. I have restarted in save mode, removed cookies, cleared cache, reset Firefox. None of that works. Running XP and Firefox 16.0.2. Two of the sites that won't reload are: http://finance.yahoo.com/ and http://www.nytimes.com/

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
- disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
- disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
- downgrade the Flash player to version 10.3 or 11.2
You can also check for problems caused by other plugins like Java (plugins aren't disabled in safe-mode)
You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
Curious whether you still can reload with the keyboard combinations or whether those also fail:
- Ctrl+r (uses cache)
- Ctrl+Shift+r (bypasses cache)
jscher - I tried both Ctrl+r and Ctrl+Shift+r several times, back to back on the nytimes page, and they both reloaded the page every times.
Shortly after I posted, I found that I was getting reloads on the Yahoo Finance page most times (with my mouse), even though the icon was flashing. It was after the market had closed, so maybe changes being made on the screen play a part in it. I'll try again, and if necessary, try cor-el's suggestions Monday morning, when the page is more active again.
TNX.
