Just downloaded and installed the newest version (11.7.700.224) of ADOBE FLASH PLAYER. After installation, I can no longer CLICK some links and Firefox 21.0 LOCKS UP to the point where I have to restart the whole computer. CPU and MEMORY are being eaten alive. I'm so sick of these problems. I'm running Windows XP SP3 and didn't have this problem UNTIL that Flash Player update. Javascript goes absolutely berserk on places like Facebook every couple of minutes! What's going on??? I saved the error message I got when this happens, see below:

hello, please try to reset firefox and see if this can address the issue...

Thanks for your reply, but do I really have to "reset" AGAIN? I've done it before and have had javascript problems even though I reset. Isn't there any easier way?

more options

hello, i've recommended the reset because the system information you've submitted show that there are many customizations in your profile that might negatively affect performance or are not recommended, there's a user.js file present which shouldn't be there under most normal circumstances & the error message you've referenced is caused by an extension...

Hi there. Reset Firefox as suggested. Now, when I play games on Facebook, "plug-in container.exe" eats up 95% CPU and locks up Firefox. Any suggestions on how to fix this one? Plug-In Container has been a real problem for Firefox for many versions now (at least it has for me).

Note that this is a problem with Adblock Plus ({d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d})

So you can try to disable this extension by starting Firefox in Safe Mode or remove the referred XPI file.

  • C:/Documents and Settings/BlackHeart/Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/lqxzdn67.default/extensions/{d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d}.xpi

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

OK, I looked for and could NOT find the below file to REMOVE it:

C:/Documents and Settings/BlackHeart/Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/lqxzdn67.default/extensions/{d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d}.xpi

I am now even having problems getting Firefox to open a new TAB instead of a new window. I have followed all directions in order to fix just that one little thing (Tab instead of Window) and NOTHING has corrected it. I can barely stay on Facebook anymore. Firefox is locking up to the point where I have to reset the entire computer to get out of it.

Do you think that perhaps I should uninstall Firefox and reinstall again? I'm at a TOTAL LOSS why all of this is happening after updating the Flash Player. I had ZERO problems before this. Everything worked fine before Flash Player install. I just don't get it. Please advise, and thanks in advance.

Did you install or enabled any extension in the current profile folder?

If you have reset Firefox then your previous profile folder has been moved to the desktop as Old Firefox Data, so you won't find the ABP file in the extensions in the current Firefox profile folder.

Does it help if you disable Flash and possibly other plugins as well as a test?

After resetting Firefox, after disabling all extensions, etc., I was still having problems. I decided it was time to just uninstall Firefox and wipe any and every instance of "Firefox" or "Mozilla" from my registry, THEN I reinstalled Firefox. I have added back the usual extensions that I love (including Ad Block Plus) and the only problem (which wasn't really a "problem") was that Firefox wouldn't let me open a NEW TAB instead of a NEW WINDOW.

Fortunately, I found an answer to that one, too, right here in the Support Forums which I will repost for anyone else that may be interested or going mad over the TAB thing. The solution that worked for me was written by "JScher2000" who is a Top 10 Contributor (thank God for you guys, LOL)! Here it is:

QUOTE:

Let me see if I understand the original problem. You can checked the preference on the following tab to divert new windows to tabs instead:

Firefox menu > Preferences > Tabs

And that was not working correctly, either on all sites or a few particular sites.

Note that by default, sites that open a new window with particular specifications, such as the size, bypass that setting. To force even those windows into a new tab, you can use the about:config preference editor.

In a new tab, type or paste about:config and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

In the filter box, type or paste link.o and pause while the list is filtered.

Double click these and set the value as desired:

(A) browser.link.open_newwindow

3 = divert new window to a new tab (default) (checked*) 2 = allow link to open a new window (unchecked*) 1 = force new window into same tab

  • First checkbox in Options > Tabs

(B) browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction - for links in Firefox tabs

0 = apply the setting under (A) to ALL new windows (even script windows) 2 = apply the setting under (A) to normal windows, but NOT to script windows with features (default) 1 = override the setting under (A) and always use new windows

(C) browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external - for links in other programs

-1 = apply the setting under (A) to external links (default) 3 = open external links in a new tab in the last active window 2 = open external links in a new window 1 = open external links in the last active tab replacing the current page

Sorry, that's a lot of data, but hopefully it's reasonably clear.

Now, when I click a link, Firefox is opening a new TAB and not a new window. Perhaps my Firefox had just been on my computer for too long and through too many updates. Perhaps it just needed a good scrubbing, LOL. I'm happy to report that so far, my beloved Firefox is working like a charm! I thank you both tremendously for your help.  :)

I am damn well SICK to the back teeth of the constant Firefox issues I'm having and its getting to the point that my stress levels are hitting the roof, I feel like putting my fist through the screen when Firefox plays up !!!

I have reset Firefox countless times now only to have constant reminders to install Flash Player to view certain pages or U Tube Videos. When I try to do this through Firefox it fails to install, I then have yet again to download and install Flash Player manually.

Once Flash Player is installed its back to the same recurring problem again with Firefox Locking Up all the time, it just freezes and is not responding, I then have to forcably close it down.

Come on you guys who updated the new version (25.0) when are you PLLLLEEEEEEASE going to fix this !? as I never use any other Browser and can't enjoy my time spent on the net anymore, surely there's going to be a fix soon for this !?, is there ????
