Why has my home page changed?

more options

I have been using the FoxTab Favorites addon for years now, and it is set as my home page. Last week it changed appearance - it now shows images of many of the web sites I've opened recently, but does not show the FoxTab screen any more. I have tried clearing the caches and cookies, as well as uninstalling and re-installing Firefox (several times) and nothing helps. The only other addon I'm running is AdBlock+. How can I get the FoxTab addon to work again? I can provide a screen shot of what it looks like, but I don't see any way to attach an image here.

Yes, that's the standard "new tab" page (about:newtab).

Is FoxTab showing up in your extensions? You can check on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Note that disabled extensions cluster at the bottom.

If you have FoxTab installed and enabled, try its Options button to see whether you need to make any changes to have it appear as your home page.

I don't see it listed in your extensions. Did you try reinstalling it?

If you noticed other missing add-ons or settings, did you find an "Old Firefox Data" folder on your desktop? That would indicate that Firefox was Reset, which could happen during an upgrade if Firefox ran into problems.

I've tried reinstalling Firefox, reinstalling the foxtab addon, and running a new installation without the addon - I get the same results no matter how I try it. I even tried reinstalling the older 25.0.1 version and it does the same thing. I even tried resetting Firefox and it didn't help. I'm attaching an image of what it looks like - maybe that will help...the image shows that the screen shows recent web pages that have been accessed, but does not show my favorites, as it should.

Okay, I reinstalled the foxtab addon, and told it to be used as my home page. Then when I open a new tab it seemed to work, but when I closed Firefox and reopened it I still got the new look. So, I went in to the Firefox options and changed the home page from "about:newtab" to "about:blank" and that seems to work. I'll try it for a day or so and see if it's back to the way I like it!

Note that you won't be able to undo closes tabs and windows:

  1. browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo: 0
  2. browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo: 0

Thanks for the help - the only issue I have left is when I'm looking at a web page and click on the little house in the upper right corner to go back to my home screen it now goes back to a blank screen instead of going to the foxtab screen. I figure it's because of the home page being set to "about: blank" - I don't recall what it was set to before all this started happening so I can live with it; if I close the tab and open a new one it gets me back to the foxtab screen so that'll work for me.
