HOW DO I GET MY OLD SET UP BACK AFTER HITTING THE RESET BUTTON AS A WAY TO GET RID OF OUTFOXTV? i HATE WHAT IT DID TO FIREFOX!

bermea 2014-04-15 09:06:42.402830 Hi, no need to use caps. We can read. :P You can reset Firefox by following the instructions below: 1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information. 2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button. 3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish. 4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied. The Reset feature should have kept all of your personal information. It would have only removed extensions and themes, website-specific preferences, search engines, download history, DOM storage, security settings, download actions, plugin settings, toolbar customizations, user styles and social features

Sorry about the caps, thought that was just the way the website was set up. A further question, isn’t one of my problems that when I reset the first time, it changed everything to the defaults. I want my old settings back, not the defaults. I think they are sitting on my desktop, just not sure how to get the back. Thanks for any help.

Hi charlesbro, for future reference, you can find your previous posts and follow up in them using your profile (top of page here) or a link in the notification of a reply. You don't need to go through posting a new question each time.

You also can use this link: https://support.mozilla.org/search?a=1&asked_by=charlesbro&sortby=1&w=2 (on a desktop browser, doesn't work on the mobile version of the site)

To address your question: The reset should have created a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data with at least one folder inside it, typically with some random letters and numbers followed by "default". Can you find that? That's your old profile folder. If there are multiple folders, choose the one that looks most promising.

Here's my suggested profile resurrection procedure using the old profile folder:

Overview

These are the steps:

(1) Create a new Firefox profile
(2) Remove everything from that new profile folder
(3) Copy in everything from the old profile folder

Create a new Firefox profile (Windows)

Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):

firefox.exe -P

Note: Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.

Click the Create Profile button. Use the default location (i.e., do not click to choose a different folder). Then select that new profile in the dialog and start Firefox.

Open the New Profile folder in Windows Explorer

Firefox in the new profile should look like a factory fresh installation. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using either:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table, click the "Show Folder" button. Firefox will launch your brand new profile folder in Windows Explorer.

Leaving this folder open, switch back to Firefox, and Exit. This will leave that profile folder open in Windows Explorer.

Copy Old Data in Place of New

In that new profile folder, select all the contents and delete.

Leaving that window open, open or switch over to your Old Firefox Data folder. Drill down into your old profile folder. At this level you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.

Select everything (Ctrl+a) and Copy (either right-click > Copy or Ctrl+c).

Switch to the empty new profile folder in other window and Paste (either right-click > Paste or Ctrl+v). This may take a minute since some of the files are large.

Start Firefox

Firefox should start up in that new profile with the resurrected old profile data. Success?
