Cannot attach a shortcut *.lnk file. It grabs the file the shortcut links to.
I want to e-mail someone a shortcut that opens an FTP site in Windows Explorer, but when I attach the shortcut file, Thunderbird attaches explorer.exe instead of the shortcut file.
For example, make a new shortcut on the desktop, linking to %windir%\explorer.exe ftp://ftp.mozilla.org Now start a new e-maiil and go to attach a file, navigate to that shortcut on the desktop and you'll get explorer.exe attached.
Zipping or otherwise archiving the shortcut is a non-starter as the recipient has no idea how to unzip a file, nor does he know how to make a shortcut, but he can drag and drop files, which with Windows Explorer and FTP works just like the files are local.
If Thunderbird popped up "This is a shortcut to a file. Do you want to attach the shortcut or the file it links to?" that would fix the issue.
I'm running Windows 7 x64

Why not just send them the link, e.g. ftp://ftp.mozilla.org, and tell them to right-click the link, Copy Link Location, then open Explorer, right-click in the address bar, Paste, then Enter.
