At random times Firefox won't let me close a given tab. I click to close it, but nothing happens. It won't let me refresh it or move it or close it out. I have to shut down the browser and restart it before I can get rid of whatever tab I wanted to close.

Is there some fix for this?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
